Dr. Yang Jung Kuei 楊榮貴 醫師

"Being an obstetrician for 25 years. I have been privileged to witness the births of new lives everyday. It never fails to fill my heart with joy, yet I have the constant burden of ensuring sage deliveries for mothers and infants. These procedures have always put me under great pressure. Five or six years ago, I felt a compelling need to put my work down, to relieve my stress. My artist cousin Tsai Cheng- Yih influenced me to take up painting as a method of releasing stress. I started by visiting the Pan Pan Art Gallery, and then began my life as a painter. In the beginning I would often meet with frustration, feeling as if I've hardly accomplished anything. Fortunately, under the guidance and constant encouragement of my teachers Cheung Tak Man and Yang Hui, I was inspired to continue on until today.

After a meditation retreat in northern Taipei, my soul was revived from under layers of dust. I learned how to relax myself, to paint with a spirited heart. Gradually, leaving the concrete behind, I was able to apply vivid colors to describe the sentiments and emotions of the heart, and pursue total relaxation in my works. In the course of painting I've achieved freedom, and experience great release. Even though my paintings are far from satisfactory, the process itself lends a very liberating, very joyful feeling. Only after learning for myself did I gain a better understanding for the significance of great paintings, and for the lives and passions of great artists. I've acquired a deeper appreciation for artists who devote their entire lives to the arts; their tenacity and determination is unmatched by any other. I hope this collection and exhibition will be just a small beginning. I deeply appreciate the vastness of art; regardless of how we proceed, we can only perhaps arrive at the start of another journey."

Individual Art Exhibition in Taipei
